President Museveni Pushes Rationalization Agenda to Curb Waste and Drive Productivity

President Yoweri Museveni issued another a follow-up statement regarding the rationalization of Uganda’s government agencies and authorities, describing it as a move to eliminate inefficiencies and streamline the production process.

He asserts that the existence of non-revenue-generating agencies like the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) only adds unnecessary costs to the government. Through rationalization, the focus will be on retaining profit-making government enterprises while phasing out roles that consume resources without generating income. Museveni also highlighted the influence of privatization principles, noting how individual ownership and private-sector-led growth have historically driven development.

Further, he expressed concern over alleged mismanagement by agencies such as NAADS and UCDA, urging a shift towards supporting Uganda’s agricultural productivity and industrial growth by reducing parasitic roles in these entities. Museveni concluded with a vision of consolidating regulatory functions, ensuring quality and safety controls are centralized for efficiency and better service delivery.
