Alison Mary Akello was among the top five out of the 20 contestants from different countries of Africa. The grand finale was held yesterday (Monday), October 1st, 2024, in Lagos’ Landmark Centre in Nigeria.

Akello, who in August handed over her crown to new Miss Tourism Teso winner, Betty Acam Okello, was chosen to represent Uganda at the grand finale in Nigeria.

As of September 30, 2024, Uganda was leading the Miss Popularity contest with 465 votes followed by Namibia with 382, Mauritius with 368, Chad with 321, Mozambique with 100, Kenya with 53, Nigeria with 42, Côte d’Ivoire with 30 and Ghana with one vote.

Akello was dominating Miss Popularity with online voting, putting her top of the list in the boot camp as the whole world awaits to see who will be crowned Miss Tourism Africa.

As the preparations get tougher and tensions flaring high in Nigeria, Akello said: “I want to call upon my people in Uganda. This is the only opportunity we have and I want us to pray to God for this crown to come home”.

“I appreciate the fact that many Ugandans have stood with me in voting and promoting me online. Let’s continue voting,” she added.

Busingye has asked Ugandans to unite and vote for Alison online in the African votes to meet the Ugandan deadline.

The Grand finale is also being attended by Mr Tourism Africa Ugandan representative, Benard Nabaasa.

Miss Tourism Africa has lined up $2,000 (about sh7.3m) and a trip to Maldives and to Milan for the Fashion Week for the winner of the crown
