Naked Women Arrested Over Protest To Parliament

The group of women who on Monday morning stripped naked in an anti corruption protest at Parliament have been remanded to Luzira prison.

Norah Kobusingye, Praise Aloikin Apoloje, and Kemitoma Kyenzibo who had been arrested from Parliamentary Avenue were on Monday afternoon arraigned before Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court and charges of being a common nuisance, contrary to section 148(1) of the Penal Code Act read against them.

Prosecution alleges that the trio, on Monday, September, 2, 2024 along Parliamentary Avenue, together with others still at large , staged a protest in the middle of the road while partially undressed and with messages written on their bodies.

They however denied the charges and in response, the state prosecutor, Ivan Kyazze told court that investigations into the matter are complete.

The trio’s lawyer, Paul Waswa attempted to apply for bail for them but fell short of substantial sureties and his efforts to ask court for a stand over to enable him get sureties proved futile.

Trial chief magistrate, Ronald Kayizzi said it was late and consequently adjourned the matter to September 12.

The three were remanded until then.

Whereas the trio had been arrested while naked, by the time they were produced in court, they had got clothes and were decently dressed
