On October 4th, 2024, Topowa Youth Mentoring Uganda, a group dedicated to empowering young people and addressing the growing issue of drug and alcohol abuse, held an impactful event at Nabisunsa Girls School.
The auditorium was filled with energy and anticipation as students engaged with passionate mentors determined to address one of the most pressing challenges facing today’s youth—substance abuse.
Topowa’s session was far more than a lecture; it was a dynamic and eye-opening experience featuring interactive discussions, a candid Q&A, and a compelling drama performance that vividly portrayed the dangers of drugs in a relatable way. The students were encouraged to make informed decisions and take control of their futures by firmly saying “NO” to harmful substances.
“It was such an empowering experience,” one student remarked. “I feel more confident in standing up against peer pressure now.”
The event wasn’t just aimed at raising awareness within the school but also at inspiring change in the wider community. By encouraging students to be role models for their peers, Topowa is initiating a ripple effect of positive change, fostering the potential for a healthier, drug-free generation.
This event is just the beginning—Topowa Youth Mentoring Uganda has plans to expand their campaign nationwide, with many more schools set to benefit from their mentorship program.
