Rapper GNL Zamba Threatens Legal Action Over Unauthorized Nominations In Ugandan Music Awards

GNL Zamba has once again declared that he wants nothing to do with music awards in Uganda.

On the Zambaland Podcast, the rapper threatened to take legal action against anyone who nominates him or uses his name, brand, or music to promote such awards without his consent.

While GNL acknowledged that the PAM Awards and the Video Music Awards were significant in their time, he made it clear that he believes any awards that have followed are not worth his participation.

He stated that if he does not submit his music for consideration, he expects not to be included in the nominations.

The rapper also expressed his dissatisfaction with a recent nomination for “Most Inspirational Song,” stating that he is not happy about it as he does not want to be nominated for local music awards.

He warned that he would pursue legal action against whoever is responsible for his nomination.

GNL voiced strong concerns over the nature of music awards in Uganda, arguing that they do not put in the effort to genuinely honor musicians.

He claimed that the awards are exploitative, with artists receiving little more than symbolic wood and glass accolades.

According to GNL, these awards often leave musicians with nothing substantial, despite their efforts and contributions to the industry.

The rapper also criticized some of these awards for being stagnant, running for over a decade without any signs of meaningful change or improvement. He hinted that a lack of progress and willingness to evolve makes them exploitative in nature.

However, GNL is not against all forms of recognition. He made it clear that he has no issues with movie and fashion awards, expressing his appreciation for these forms of recognition outside the music industry.

In his outspoken rejection of Ugandan music awards, GNL Zamba has once again proven that he is not afraid to challenge the status quo in the local music scene.
