Bebe Cool Warns Musicians From Exploiting General Saleh’s Generosity

General Salim Saleh, the Chief Coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation, expressed concerns about the growing number of musicians traveling to Gulu for Christmas events, stating that it disrupts his programs and activities in Northern Uganda.

In response, Bebe Cool called the situation unfortunate. He explained that many musicians have developed a habit of seeking help from General Saleh through questionable means.

He pointed out that it is inappropriate for musicians to continuously approach Saleh for personal assistance and sponsorship.

Bebe Cool acknowledged General Saleh’s long-standing support for the music sector, highlighting that for over 17 years, Saleh has kept his doors open for discussions aimed at benefiting the industry and contributing to economic development.

He also recalled spending four months in Gulu with the general, discussing ways to advance the music sector.

However, Bebe Cool raised concerns that some musicians, seeing Saleh’s generosity, are trying to exploit it.

While he recognized Saleh’s sense of obligation to help, Bebe Cool suggested that it was time for him to direct musicians to established structures, which he has already started to do.

Bebe Cool emphasized that all musicians, along with their federation, fall under the Uganda National Cultural Centre.

He argued that it is the government’s responsibility, not General Saleh’s, to empower the Uganda National Cultural Centre with the resources it needs to operate effectively. This would ensure that musicians no longer have to rely on one individual for help.

Bebe Cool praised General Saleh’s recent decision to address the issue, calling it a positive step in protecting himself from being overwhelmed.

He urged musicians to stop seeking personal assistance in Gulu, suggesting that while General Saleh can offer help when necessary, it should not become a routine dependency.

Fully supporting General Saleh’s concerns, Bebe Cool recommended that General Saleh personally invite him to engage directly in developing the music sector in a more sustainable and structured way.
