40-Year-Old Man Arrested At Kisenyi Bus Terminal After Being Found With A Gun

A 40-year-old man David Tumwine, alias Busoni has been arrested at Kisenyi Bus Terminal in Kampala after being found with a gun.

Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire says Tumwine is a resident of Mubuteraniro village in Mubende district. According to statements recorded at Old Kampala police station, the suspect was intercepted at around 9:00 am at Kisenyi Bus Terminal following a security check.

When Tumwine, who was carrying two bags, was asked to stop for a search, he allegedly attempted to flee, abandoning the bags. The terminal’s security team swiftly pursued and apprehended him and upon searching his bags, a sub-machine gun (SMG), 24 live rounds of ammunition, 2 magazines, 3 pangas, a 1-litre bottle of petrol, and ropes were recovered.

“Our preliminary investigations reveal that Tumwine was travelling from Kyotera district and was going to Busia. We are currently working to establish the source of the firearm and the suspect’s intentions,” Owoyesigyire said.

Umaru Matovu, chairperson of the Uganda Bus Operators Association (UBOA), says that the successful arrest of the suspect is a result of their recent decision to increase the number of security guards at all bus terminals aimed at enhancing security during the festive season.

“We have directed all terminals to have five to ten security guards on hand, especially during this period. This move aims to prioritize the safety of passengers, given the past instances of thugs snatching people’s properties within the terminals and the ongoing threats of terrorism.” Umaru said.

Umaru explained that, in addition to increasing security personnel, they also have individuals stationed at the terminals who use megaphones to raise awareness and encourage passengers to report any suspicious persons or activities in their vicinity.
