CAF President In Uganda To Evaluate CHAN Preparations

Dr Motsepe’s visit is part of a three-nation tour to evaluate preparations, including visits to stadiums, training facilities, and meeting with local football authorities.

The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Dr Patrice Motsepe, arrived in Uganda.

Motsepe jetted in on Friday evening, 20 December.

He’s here with the CAF team to assess the country’s readiness for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), which is set to take place in February.

Uganda is one of the host nations for the prestigious tournament, alongside Kenya and Tanzania.

Dr Motsepe’s visit is part of a three-nation tour to evaluate preparations, including visits to stadiums, training facilities, and meeting with local football authorities.

Dr Motsepe’s arrival in Uganda marks the final leg of his visit to the three host countries, which began earlier this week.

The CAF President started his tour in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on 19 December, before moving to Nairobi, Kenya. Uganda’s turn came on Friday evening, when he was welcomed by Parliament Speaker Anita Among and her husband, Moses Magogo, the President of the Uganda Football Federation (FUFA).

Dinner with CAF President at the Among Residence

Later in the evening, Speaker Anita Among and her husband Moses Magogo hosted Dr Motsepe for a dinner at their residence in Kampala.

In a heartfelt post on social media, Among shared her appreciation for the CAF President’s ongoing support of Ugandan football.

She wrote, “My husband and I had the honour of hosting CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe for dinner at our residence. Dr. Motsepe is in Uganda to assess our progress and readiness for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) scheduled for February.”

I expressed gratitude for his guidance and consistent support as Uganda prepares to co-host AFCON 2027.”

This dinner, which took place in the capital, provided an opportunity for the key figures in Ugandan football to discuss preparations for the upcoming CHAN tournament, as well as the broader plans for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which Uganda will co-host with neighbouring countries.

Progress on Stadiums and Training Facilities

During his visit to Uganda, Dr Motsepe is expected to meet with government officials, football leadership, and members of the Local Organising Committees.

His agenda includes touring the stadiums and training facilities undergoing renovations in preparation for CHAN 2024.

Earlier this year, CAF conducted an inspection tour to assess the progress of infrastructure development, including stadiums, hotels, airports, and training sites.

This follow-up visit is intended to ensure that the host nations are on track to deliver a successful tournament.

Dr Motsepe’s inspection is crucial for confirming that the necessary upgrades have been made to meet CAF’s standards for the competition.
