KCCA Closes Kirinya – Bukasa Cemetery Over Increased Bad Smell From Corpse

The Kampala Capital City Authority has been left stuck after Kira Municipal Council resolved to stop the burying of corpses in the Kirinya – Bukasa cemetery, in Bweyogerere, sub-county. This follows concerns that the cemetery was now full.

Christopher Kezimbira a resident in Namataba says he works under very high conditions, bodies are brought and piled there and dogs come and feed on them.

According to Diriisa Byamukama, the chairperson Namataba says that the smell worsens and the bodies are brought when they are already rotten and files come from the bodies to our plates, foods and other things.

And this alone brings high risks to our health and this is not nice.

The residents are really worried that this can lead to risks of strange diseases breaking out in the area.

The Kira Municipal Council met to resolve the matter and ordered to closure of the cemetery. According to council officials, they have already communicated to the KCCA.

Rashidah Nanyonga Deputy Mayor, of Kira Municipal Council, say that the cemetery is already filled up and KCCA is still continuing to bury the dead bodies the dogs come in putting out most parts of the dead bodies so the entire village and neighbouring areas smell.

Addressing the issue was the KCCA spokesperson  Daniel Nuwabiine admitted that they had received the resolution ordering the closure of the cemetery. However, he added that they are now looking for a place to place the outstanding corpses.

“We are going to our level best to solve the problem and it’s our duty to maintain these places in a way that it doesn’t create a bad image of the city and the country,” said Daniel Nuwabiine.

This move comes in as fresh for the KCCA directive to open up a new landfilled in Wakiso District following the Kitezi landfill
