Head of the 2026 general elections, the religious and cultural political leaders are calling for electro reforms to allow free and fair elections in the country.
Democratic Party (DP) President and the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Norbert Mao says that Uganda has to change its political culture if the country is to have free and fair elections next year 2026.
The Minister said this during the ongoing 18th Proviso Peace Week prayers which are currently taking place at St Charles Lwanga Playgrounds in Koboko Municipality.
Mao also said that the laws are not the problem and according to him his proposal to make electronic voting a must is before the cabinet and also aims to stop cases of rigging, manipulation and ballot staffing.
Mao also added that the new reforms would be an offence for a presiding officer to have contradicting data and one who got in such issues would be liable to imprisonment of 5 years.
The area leaders in Koboko district also use the same platform to remind the government about the need to compensate war victims and other soldiers in the region.
Sabino Ochan Odoki the Arua Catholic Diocese Bishop said that they want to appreciate those who have helped them to end the fighting.
The current ongoing peace week in Koboko district is intended to provide opportunities for reconciliation and healing amongst different communities in Northern Uganda who fought each other in the past
