Ugandan Musicians Don’t Understand How Copyright Law Works – Sama Sojah

The discussion about amending Uganda’s copyright law remains a significant issue in the entertainment industry, with many creators feeling that the current system does not protect their work enough.

While there are calls for improvement, singer Ivan Tonny Kizito, alias Sama Sojah, believes the focus should also be on educating people about how the law works.

He argued that although many are aware of copyright regulations, few fully understand them.

The “Nyonyi Nyange” singer explained that creators must better prepare for the realities of intellectual property rights.

He pointed out that many musicians wrongly assume that once the law is in place, they can simply create music, relax, and wait for money to come in.

However, Sama Sojah stressed that this is not how copyright regulations operate.

He believes that, even with a proper law in place, the hustle for creators will continue and that the law will actually affect many.

He feels there is a lack of information on how the copyright law truly operates, which he sees as a huge disservice to creators.

Sama Sojah urged musicians to prepare for what lies ahead with the law and concluded by voicing his support for amendments, saying they could open up more financial opportunities for creators.
