President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has visited the Inspire Africa Modern Coffee Park in Rwashamaire town, Ntungamo district. The coffee hub, part of a pilot project by Inspire Africa, is set to benefit from a proposed $10 million (Shs37 billion) government grant.
The hub is designed to gather all graded coffee from farmers in the Ankole, Kigezi, and Rwenzori (AKR) regions, process it into final products, and package it for local consumption and export. The coffee park will feature three large factory houses for primary, secondary, and tertiary production of coffee, enabling value addition through products like coffee wines, drinks, and lip balms.
President Museveni toured the site to appraise the progress of the project, which aims to transform the coffee industry in Uganda. He promised to allocate additional funds to the project to support more coffee farmers in adding value to their coffee.
Nelson Tugume, the Chief Executive Officer of Inspire Africa Coffee, hailed President Museveni for championing the campaign of value addition. The function was attended by Ministers Evelyn Anite and Dr. Musenero, MPs, religious leaders, businessmen, and coffee farmers from Kigezi, Rwenzori, and Greater Ankole.
