A couple in Kabale has been remanded to Ndorwa prison over charges of murder and aggravated robbery.
Desire Kwizera, 26, and his wife only identified as Uwingabire, 19, allegedly killed Godfrey Twinomujuni Ntegyire, a resident of Karujabura village, Kitumba sub-county, Kabale district on May 31.
Twinomujuni was a well-known local porridge (obushera and enturire) seller in Kabale town. According to court records, the suspects killed Twinomujuni and later stole his belongings, including a mattress, an iron box, a radio, a suitcase, a bicycle, three watches, utensils and ATM card.
When they reached the Uganda-Rwanda border at Chanika in Kisoro district on June 1, 2024. They were intercepted by Ugandan security officials due to lack of travel documents. Upon investigation, it was established that they were fleeing after killing Twinomujuni.
On interrogation, Kwizera allegedly admitted to killing Twinomujuni. Appearing before court on Tuesday, Rachael Nkanzi, Kabale district state attorney said that investigations into the case are still ongoing. Julius Mutabaazi, Kabale grade one magistrate remanded the couple to Ndorwa government prison until June 27.
