Parliament has rejected a move by the National Unity Platform to drop Mityana Woman MP Joyce Bagala and Abed Bwanika as parliamentary committee heads.
The opposition chief whip, John Baptist Nambeshe on Wednesday morning informed parliament of a decision to drop Bagala as the chairperson of standing committee on government assurance and Bwanika as her deputy.
However, parliament rejected the dropping of the two legislators.
Commenting about the development, the Leader of Opposition, Joel Ssenyonyi insisted that as far as the opposition is concerned, the two MPs no longer represent them.
“The NRM and speaker can protect them but I want to emphasize, the speaker should stop abusing her powers. It is as if she has some people she is interested in working with but I ask her to let us do our job. You can keep violating the law and usurping our powers. These things will catch up with her.
“The day of reckoning is going to come but I won’t stop to talk about these issues.”
