Fans were treated to scintillating action as week three of the Boxing Champions League took centre stage last evening at the indoor arena in Lugogo.
Notable performances included Cobap Boxing Club’s Ukasha Matovu beating Edward Mukwaya of Kiwatule Boxing Club in the lightweight category.
Later, Lukanga’s Owen Kibira out-punched Bashir Serugo of Zebra Boxing Club in the middleweight category, among other bouts. The competition also included ladies’ bouts.
Mawanda Depark of East Coast, accompanied by Vian Music, achieved a 5-0 unanimous decision victory over Mutaasa Ashraf from Mutajjazi in the same weight class.
Despite the relentless onslaught, Mukwaya demonstrated resilience and grit, managing to stay on his feet and push Ukasha to the limit.
COBAP’s Ukasha enjoyed significant support from the crowd and controlled the bout from the beginning.
The final round brought a moment of tension as Ukasha narrowly avoided a knockdown, holding on until the bell.
Ukasha, who claimed the Welterweight title last season by defeating Owen Kibira in the final, remains an outright favourite in this division.
With Kibira no longer in the category, Ukasha is expected to continue his reign. His competitors this season include Richard Kasujja, Nuhu Bate, Sande Simon, and Alex Kanabi, all of whom will be vying to challenge Ukasha’s dominance.
Sauda Muhammad, Aziz Ringo and Owen Kibira were the other notable winners, with the latter landing a knockout in seconds.
