Kumi Health Workers Strike Over Unpaid Salaries

Patients across Kumi district are stranded after health workers started a sit-down strike to protest the failure of their employer to pay their salaries for two months.

The medics say they will only attend to critical emergencies until their salary arrears are cleared. However, the district Chief Administrative Officer Roseline Adongo is confident that all the health workers’ salary arrears have been catered for and the Ministry of Finance and Bank of Uganda will credit their accounts anytime.

The working staff gave the District until which was yesterday, 27th June 2024 to clear the outstanding payments in a letter written on 26th June and addressed to the office of the Chief Administrative Officer Kumi.

The Medics warn that if their issue is not resolved by the close of business and do the strike will be started today, June 28th, 2024.

The health workers are seeking a resolution for the unpaid salaries from April to June 2023.

The letter, signed by the Kumi District Local Government Health Workers, has been copied to the LCV, RDC, DHO, and Management Atutur Hospital.

The notice serves as a final call to action for the district authorities to address the situation and prevent a potentially crippling disruption to healthcare services in the area.

As the district scrambles to resolve the issue, the health workers’ ultimatum hangs in the balance.

If the situation is not remedied, Kumi District residents may face a critical shortage of healthcare services, highlighting the urgency of the matter at hand.
