Artists Working With NRM Must Maintain Discipline And Avoid Arrogance – Minister Balaam

While appearing on the Morning At NTV  show that runs every day from Morning to Friday at NTV Uganda, was Balaam Barugahara the Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs who said that Indiscipline among young people is a growing concern for both the government and the arts sector. Without action, it will impact our industry. While copyright law is a good start, we urgently need regulations to ensure professionalism and growth.

The minister said this while commenting on the issue which involved two musicians Pallaso and Alien Skin who were involved in fighting the rising tension of gangs in the industry.

The fight started on New Year’s Day, Wednesday when both artists were booked to sing at the Empele Festival at Forest Park, Buloba.

Pallaso was already performing on stage when Alien Skin and his gang arrived, interrupting the show by forcefully removing him from the stage. This sparked a violent confrontation as both groups clashed, leading to intense physical altercations. The situation escalated to such an extent that police were compelled to shut down the event.

Subsequently, Pallaso and his group, reportedly armed with pangas, pickaxes, hammers, and stones, descended on Alien Skin’s residence. During this attack, they caused extensive damage, including the destruction of vehicles and the shattering of windows.

According to Balaam, he adds that the past groups led by Bobi Wine under Firebase Crew, Dr Jose Chameleone under Leone Island, and Bebe Cool under Gagamel were not harmful gangs. These groups were centred around music competitions and did not escalate into violence.

“The government must establish industrial standards, implement mentorship programs, address gang culture, reform communication strategies, promote responsible social media use, and provide positive role models to guide the youth, “ said Minister Balaam.

He also added that Artists working with the NRM must maintain discipline and avoid arrogance, as the President does not tolerate indiscipline. This is why some artists have stopped performing for the NRM. Alien Skin, who doesn’t align with the NRM, is now caught in his actions.

Balaam also said that among artists, there is significant pressure to succeed and gain fame. Some have not been properly supported by their families, which is negatively affecting the arts sector. Addressing this issue requires a comprehensive approach. Additionally, the police should focus on disbanding gangs of artists
