Bishop Jacinto Kibuuka, the chairperson for the Christian Ecumenical Council of Uganda CECU, also the presiding Bishop of the Evangelical Orthodox Church in Uganda Jacinto Kibuuka has called upon believers to emulate the Uganda Martyrs and distance themselves from evil acts which are on high rise all over the country.
In his message, delivered during the celebrations of Martyrs Day at Mamre International Prayer Center in Namugongo, Kibuuka noted that it’s worrying to find that cases of Corruption, Homosexuality, Use of contraceptives, impunity and religious intolerance are on the increase these days.
“As our people from Mpigi were walking to this place, they found many people on the way accusing them that they I paid them for that cause, it’s very absurd that we have people who are driven by religious intolerance to harass others.”
Kibuuka also noted that being that Martyrs were from different tribes but died for a common cause, people should avoid tribalism because it will lead to delayed development of Uganda.
“It’s unfortunate that nowadays you find Christians who can boldly grab other people’s land without thinking twice that material things remain on this world but after death, we shall be answerable to the Lord.”
Gerald Nangoli, a member of parliament for Elgon North in Bulambuli district who was also the guest of honour urged the public to emulate Uganda Martyr’s devotion.
Hon. Gerald Nangoli, Elgon North Bulambuli legislator who was the guest of honour at the event urged believers to always be devoted to whatever they do like the Uganda Martyrs.
“Devotion helps people to benefit. For us as Ugandans when corruption is at its peak we should reflect on what we have done for fellow Ugandans, …we shall leave the flats, and arcades here, we should be reminded that when we die, we go with nothing.”
CECU is an umbrella body for six religions that include: the Evangelical Orthodox Church, Charismatic Episcopal Church, Worldwide Anglican Church, Orthodox Anglican Church, Reformed Anglican Church, and Orthodox Anglican church.
