Kawempe North Member of Parliament Muhammad Ssegirinya is dead, The Telegraph Ug reports.
Ssegirinya was pronounced dead this morning after years of sickness.
Ssegirinya returned to Uganda on September 19, 2023, after being discharged from Amsterdam University Medical Centers Hospital in the Netherlands, where he had been receiving treatment.
“Very sad news this morning. Our brother, our friend, our fellow leader Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya has passed on. Such a dark morning,” National Unity Platform leader, Robert Kyagulanyi posted on his official X platform on January 9, 2025.
Ssegirinya’s illness started while he was in hospital where he was incarcerated together with his Makindye West counterpart, Allan Ssewanyana over the Masaka panga-wielding murders.
After being released on bail, the illness continued, prompting relatives and fellow legislators to seek redress from parliament for treatment abroad.
He was later flown to Germany and the Netherlands before being moved to Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya.
Ssegirinya was last year discharged from hospital but his health had not stabilized
