A new report is out on teenage pregnancies showing Buyende District in Busoga Region with the highest numbers in Uganda with 24% of girls getting early pregnancies.
Coming in second place is Ajumani District with 14%. This was compiled by the government and its partners dealing with the main causes of poverty in Busoga and cultural norms and family conflicts in Ajumani.
According to Hon. Mary Annet Nakato the Buyende District member of Parliament says that there is a need to set up a sports Academy saying that he one fails an education he or she can make sure of his talent to earn a living.
she also thanked the Busoga Kingdom for setting up so many projects to train both girls and boys as far as adolescent is concerned.
Titus Tumusiime a member of Rights to Play said that the causes of teenage pregnancies are so many but one of the most key issues is poverty because children basic services, girls need sanitary pads and if they can’t get them, they end up sleeping with men who can provide them small services.
He also added saying the cultural practices and parents bring up their children saying that parents need to empower and educate children on issues of sexuality, and how to understand their bodies among other things.
