Ugandan comic duo, Madrat & Chiko, have come out to address the criticism they face for performing at events organized by political figures.
The pair emphasized that their entertainment work should not be confused with political allegiance.
Chiko explained that as entertainers, their primary goal is to perform and earn a living.
He clarified that performing at an event hosted by a political figure does not mean they support that person’s political party.
According to Chiko, being booked to entertain at an event is simply part of their job.
Madrat, on the other hand, echoed Madrat’s sentiments, stressing that they are not politically biased in their work.
He pointed out that he would accept bookings from anyone, regardless of their political affiliation.
“When someone from DP calls me to work, I will go. When someone from NUP calls me to work, I will go. When someone from NRM calls me to work, I will go, because a job is a job,” Madrat affirmed.
This clarification from Madrat and Chiko sheds light on the challenges entertainers face in the political landscape.
While their work sometimes involves performing at events hosted by political figures, they made it clear that they see their role as being purely about entertainment, not about endorsing any particular political party.
For them, it is about the job and the need to earn a living.
