The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has shared valuable advice with entertainers, emphasizing that professionalism is the key to building a successful and lasting career.
He expressed these thoughts during a media interview following his attendance at the 10 Years of Spice Diana event held at the Kampala Serena Hotel.
He believes that treating entertainment as a serious profession has been the driving force behind Spice Diana’s ability to thrive in Uganda’s music industry for over a decade.
“Being an entertainer is no different from being a doctor, teacher, or even a coffee farmer. At the end of the day, they are all jobs,” he remarked.
The Katikkiro pointed out that entertainers who fail to view their craft as a legitimate career will struggle to maintain longevity in the industry.
Using Spice Diana as an example, he praised her for navigating the competitive music scene with professionalism, which has been key to her enduring success.
However, he expressed concern over the violent clashes among musicians in 2024, describing them as a major setback for the industry.
“Such conflicts and behavior kill talent and ruin careers,” he noted.
Despite these challenges, the Katikkiro remains optimistic about the industry’s future, citing the emergence of talented young artistes like Ava Peace, Nandor Love, and Dax Vibes as a source of hope.
He encouraged these rising stars to avoid unlawful behavior, warning that engaging in such actions could jeopardize their potential and growth.
He also urged male artistes to steer clear of violence and substance abuse while advising female artistes to remain focused and mindful of romantic distractions.
“If the male artistes resort to violent behavior, alcohol, and drug abuse, they will fail. Similarly, if female artistes become overly involved with men, who will inevitably pursue them, it could derail their careers as well,” he cautioned.
