Eddy Kenzo, one of Uganda’s biggest music stars, has responded sharply to musicians who claim he is not using his connections to help them land international gigs.
Kenzo, who has performed in many countries, fired back, calling them “cry babies.”
In a media interview, he made it clear that his success is a result of hard work, asking, “Who gave me connections?” before adding, “It is about work and doing what you have to do.”
Kenzo believes musicians should focus on their craft instead of looking for shortcuts.
In his view, they are all in the same industry, so it is unfair to blame him for anyone else’s shortcomings.
The BET Award winner went on to explain that international bookings depend on an artiste’s work, not just connections.
“Promoters assess an artiste’s market value before deciding to book them,” he said.
Instead of seeking connections, Kenzo urged fellow artists to engage him on policies and ideas that can help improve the industry, given his leadership role in the music industry.
