This year’s National Ball Games II kicked off yesterday at Teso College Aloet in Soroti as teams compete to qualify for the East African Secondary School Games later this year.
In the opening games, handball powerhouse Gombe Secondary School defeated Kawanda SS by 15 to 9 goals in the boys’ category, while Mbarara’s Ntare School beat Kakukungulu Memorial 14 to 11 goals.
In the girls’ category, Gombe SS defeated Wampewo Ntake by 19 to 12 goals, and Kawanda SS triumphed over Mbogo Mixed with a score of 22 to 7 goals.
The draws for the 2024 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) ball games 2 were held on Monday, 8th July at the GNS Plaza in Old Kampala.
USSSA Chief Executive Officer Christopher Mugisha Banage, technical chairperson Richard Muhumuza, competitions director Emmanuel Kasakya and communications director Bosco Omario were in charge of the draws.
Netball had a total of 78 teams drawn with the defending champion St Mary’s Kitende drawn in group A alongside Blessed Sacrament Kimanya, Ahamadiya Muslim High School, Lugazi Homeland College, Hamdan Girls Secondary School, Mvara Secondary School, Mawogola High School, Rock High School Tororo, Fort Portal Secondary School and Light College Katikamu.
The championship will be hosted at Teso College Aloet in Soroti from 10th to 17th July 2024.
Schools arrived on Tuesday, 9th July 2024 before to kick-off on the following day (Wednesday 10th, July 2024).
Besides Netball, USSSA Ball games 2 also involve Volleyball, Athletics, Rugby (7’s) and Handball.
