The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has reaffirmed that nothing will stand in the way of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) in fulfilling its mission.
“No amount of hardship or unforeseen circumstances will derail us from our mission,” he said on Thursday afternoon while addressing the 44th Tarehe Sita celebrations at Kasasa Town Council Grounds in Kyotera district.
“We have a duty to protect our people. We have a Pan-African duty to the region and to Africa,” he added.
Gen Kainerugaba emphasised that this commitment is key to ensuring “sustainable prosperity for our people.” He added, “From this core mission, we shall not waver.”
Gen Kainerugaba, who is also the Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations, informed President Yoweri Museveni, who graced the event, that the UPDF is strengthening ties and forging new partnerships with fellow African militaries and beyond through military cooperation agreements.
Reflecting on the significance of the Tarehe Sita celebrations, he noted that they symbolise “how far we’ve come and where we aim to go as a country.”
“Ours has been a journey of continuous growth, some challenges notwithstanding,” he said, highlighting the honour and respect accorded to those who sacrificed their lives for the struggle.
He reiterated that the agenda of fundamental change remains intact, particularly in “guaranteeing the security of all our citizens.”
“As the UPDF, we’ve worked tirelessly to consolidate the fruits of the liberation struggle,” he said.
