The National Unity Platform (NUP) has dismissed allegations circulating on social media, suggesting that a party card for the Kawempe North constituency is being sold for UGX 330 million.
The controversy stems from screenshots of a WhatsApp conversation allegedly involving Fred Nyanzi, also known as Chairman Nyanzi, the brother of NUP party president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine), and a contestant identified as Nalukoola, a lawyer.
These screenshots sparked heated debates, with critics of the party using the alleged conversation to claim that NUP’s internal processes are corrupt and that party cards are sold to the highest bidder.
In a statement posted on their official X (formerly Twitter) account, NUP dismissed the screenshots as fake and malicious.
“These screenshots making rounds are FAKE, being spread by malicious persons. Ignore and treat with contempt!” the statement read.
Counsel Luyimbaazi Nalukoola also dismissed the conversation as fake and urged his supporters not to believe or be influenced by it.
He stated that fake news is being used as a weapon against him but encouraged his followers to remain steadfast and not fall victim to manipulation.
“My attention has been drawn to these deepfakes. Folks, don’t let yourselves be manipulated by these cowards.
Fake news and disinformation are going to be used as weapons. Stay alert.” Counsel Nalukoola.
