Uganda’s national netball team, the She Cranes, is set to take on some of the world’s best at the Vitality Netball Nations Cup 2025, which kicks off on February 1 in England.
The tournament, played across two weekends in Nottingham and London, will see Uganda battle against host nation England, South Africa, and Malawi.
The She Cranes will open their campaign against South Africa on February 1 at 6 PM EAT, before facing Malawi the following day.
Their biggest challenge will come on February 8, when they take on England, currently ranked among the world’s top four teams.
Uganda will be looking to build on their growing reputation in international netball, having impressed in recent global competitions including the Fast5 and the Africa Netball Cup.
With England missing key players such as Helen Housby, Eleanor Cardwell, and Nat Metcalf, the She Cranes could capitalize on the opportunity to cause an upset.
England head coach Jess Thirlby acknowledged that her side will need to be at their best to fend off the competition, saying:
“We are the team they want to beat in order to get some ranking points and move up themselves, so they’ll be hot on our heels I have no doubt about that.”
For Uganda, this tournament is another chance to climb higher in the world rankings and prove they belong among netball’s elite teams.
The She Cranes have consistently challenged higher-ranked nations and will be eager to make a statement on English soil.
