Ssekikubo Criticizes Opposition MPs For Dodging Anti-Corruption Censure Motion

Lwemiyaga County Member of Parliament Theodore Ssekikubo has attacked opposition MPs for shying away from signing the motion to start the censure of the four MPs on the Parliamentary Commission.

Addressing journalists at parliament earlier today, he wondered why the opposition came to parliament chest-thumping how they were going to fight corruption, only to hide when such a chance presents itself.

He revealed that whereas he hoped to close the registration of signatures for the censure motion this week, ironically among the group that has mysteriously eluded the exercise are opposition MPs and instead the exercise is being run by NRM MPS.

Ssekikubo has however revealed that the ongoing exercise of collection of signatures for the removal of the legislators from positions as members of the Parliamentary Commission over alleged corruption is going on smoothly.

The MPs in question are; Esther Afoyochan for Zombo District Woman Representative, Prossy Akampurira for Rubanda, Solomon Silwany for Bukooli Central and Mathias Mpuuga who represents Nyendo Mukungwe.

The four MPs are accused of allocating themselves between Sh 400m –Shs 500m service awards, and a monthly salary of Shs23m, on top of their emoluments as MPs, without seeking Parliamentary approval.

“Nobody likes corruption, Parliament must stand transparency and accountability and those are the hallmarks of any democracy in the country. So far, we are doing well, we aren’t worried about signatures, even those members who are pondering, each member must stand to be counted.

At the end of the day, we shall publish and show which side their MPs are on either for corrupt or those striving for corruption”, added Ssekikubo.

Ssekikubo also revealed that the embattled Commissioners are now seeking solace from the Speaker, claiming the censure motion is intended to remove Speaker Among.

“We are disappointed that those persons who are clearly names in our motion are trying to draw in everything. The motion, I want to reiterate, is aimed at the four MPs, but they are dragging in the Speaker”, he told journalists.

He says they need about 177 signatures for censure motion
