Swangz Avenue Stars Top Bebe Cool’s 2024 List

Musician Bebe Cool unveiled his 2024 list of Uganda’s top artists.

The “Bebe Cool List,” an annual tradition, celebrates musicians who have excelled in creativity, popularity, and impact over the past year.

Bebe Cool highlighted Elijah Kitaka, Priscilla Zawedde alias Azawi, and the collaboration between D Star and Alfa Sebunya alias Mudra as the standout performers in 2024.

“Swangz Avenue has struck gold with Elijah Kitaka, a talented male artist poised to conquer Africa and beyond. His voice is unmistakable, his style is on point, and his relatability to the youth is undeniable,” he said.

Azawi earned her spot on the list for the third consecutive year, with her hit song Masavu solidifying her reputation as one of Uganda’s most reliable hitmakers.

Bebe Cool described her as “a force to be reckoned with.”

The viral success of Ozambe, a collaboration between D Star and Mudra, also caught Bebe Cool’s attention.

“Their strategic use of TikTok turned a simple challenge into a massive East African hit. It’s proof of how social media, combined with discipline and focus, can launch careers,” he said.

Newcomer Derrick Nsubuga alias Kapeeke was recognized for his catchy tracks Swiriri and Shu, which gained traction online.

Acidic Vokoz, real name Mutwailu Kakaire, made the list due to his packed performances and devoted fan base despite lacking a specific hit.

“His ability to fill venues like Cricket Oval Lugogo shows his widespread appeal,” Bebe Cool noted.

Gospel music also earned a spotlight with Springs of Life Choir’s Lukusuuta. Bebe Cool praised the rising influence of gospel music in Uganda.

“I am thrilled to see gospel musicians competing with secular artists. It reminds us of the power of faith and music.” Pastor Wilson Bugembe’s Toonta was also celebrated for its success on social media and in church gatherings.

Secular artists were not left out, with Nandor Love’s Kinawoolovu praised for its club and social media success, though Bebe Cool urged the artist to improve her stage presence.

Dokta Brain and Kataleya & Kandle’s Nkuwulira also secured a spot, following deliberation with industry insiders.

Rising stars Ava Peace and Dax Vybz made the list with their hit Tabu. Bebe Cool commended Ava Peace’s confidence and passion and expressed optimism about her future under the guidance of her manager Jeff Kiwa.

Meanwhile, Aaron’s Njalwaala, celebrated as a classical masterpiece, marked his journey from a taxi conductor to national recognition.

Veterans David Lutalo and Rema Namakula were acknowledged for their duet Love Commissioner, with Bebe Cool lauding their consistent contributions to Uganda’s music industry.

Alien Skin also earned a mention, with Bebe Cool sparking debate on the artist’s unique appeal despite limited mainstream airplay.

Bebe Cool himself took a moment to praise his disruptive release Circumference, calling it a model for effective music marketing. He expressed confidence in its potential for 2025, describing it as a significant achievement ahead of his forthcoming album Break The Chains.

Concluding his list, Bebe Cool urged the music industry to focus on solutions for growth rather than shifting blame.

“This year has been the most underwhelming for music since the inception of the Bebe Cool List,” he said, encouraging stakeholders to address challenges constructively.
