Tamale Mirundi’s Brother Seeks Forgiveness

The brother of the late outspoken political commentator, Tamale Mirundi, has appealed for forgiveness for his sibling’s past transgressions. John Ssali Ssembuya made the plea during a requiem mass held for Mirundi at St. Gyaviira Parish Catholic Church in Bunamwaya on Wednesday.

Ssembuya expressed gratitude to the church for allowing the family to hold a requiem mass, admitting initial fears that the church might decline due to Mirundi’s controversial public persona. He acknowledged that some of Mirundi’s statements were inappropriate and should not be taken seriously.

“Can someone who says that he should be buried with his head out be taken seriously?” Ssembuya questioned the congregation, highlighting the late commentator’s often provocative rhetoric.

The brother also announced his intention to seek forgiveness from the Katikiro of Buganda for any wrongs committed by Mirundi. “We have not received any messages from Mengo. Maybe they are still angry,” he said.

Ssembuya clarified a widely circulated statement attributed to Mirundi, which claimed that his body should not be taken to church upon his death. He explained that the statement was taken out of context, asserting that Mirundi had expressed a desire not to have his body disrespected by a specific priest, Fr. Kibi.
