Thomas Tayebwa Urges Minister Ruth Aceng To Address Concerns In Deployment Of Medical Interns.

The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, has summoned the Minister of Health, Jane Ruth Aceng, to address concerns about the deployment of medical interns.

This stemmed from the numerous complaints Tayebwa got from medical interns whom the health ministry has failed to train in schools.

The deputy speaker informed the MPs that he had received numerous complaints from medical interns regarding the Minister of Health’s failure to post them.

Tayebwa stated that this issue has become increasingly problematic as these students have finished their studies but have not yet been assigned for practical training.

“If you are telling these interns that you are giving them another year at home without anything, I have done my part; I finished the study, but you are saying I cannot practice until I do an internship, but then you’re not taking me for an internship. So, what do I do? They lost a lot of time during COVID 19, so I know many colleagues have also raised these issues with me,” Tayebwa said.

The speaker requested that the minister, Acheng, make a statement on Tuesday next week.

Tayebwa made this communication on Thursday, August 1, 2024, during the parliament session.

On July 29, 2024, the Ministry of Health deployed medical interns to train schools for a period of one year, effective August 5, 2024. The placement covered graduates who completed their courses in 2023 and before.
